The Moon Lodge is when women come together to celebrate the ancient ceremonies of honoring our menstrual cycles, communicating with the ancestors, sharing our gifts and passing the women's wisdom on to our daughters. The Lodge reminds us that we live within the cycles of the Earth and Moon. When we honor our wombs, we honor the Great Mother. Remembering and recreating these ancient ceremonies will bring right relation to all children of Earth. Perhaps, eventually, Moon Lodges will once again become respected women's places in our communities.
When women started their cycle, they left their homes and families to go to the sacred introspective space of the Moon Lodge. The Lodge was honored and respected by the entire community, for the dreams and visions of the moontime women brought vital survival information such as planting and healing knowledge and guidance on community relations. When there were questions that needed to be answered, the women would go to the Lodge and ask the Ancestors. All questions were always answered by the Ancient Ancestors. The entire community benefited through the powerful gifts of the women's bleeding cycle.

How might your life have been different, if,
long ago when you were still a tiny child,
long before you began to come to the Women's Lodge
as the normal cycle of your life, you had been brought here
especially by your mother and aunts...
and you and your girl cousin entered shyly
into this place you had overheard so much about?
And, after the fires were lighted, and the drumming, and the silence,
you heard, for the very first time, what the women called the
Naming..each woman speaking slowly into the stillness, sharing her
feeling of how she saw her life and what she wished to say of it...sharing
it with the women around her...weaving the threads of her life into a
fabric to be given and named
And, as the shadows of the day lengthened into dusk, and you leaned
your head against your mother's shoulder, you pondered in your heart
a different sense of a woman's life.
